Tommy Farrell is running for Pueblo City Council District 1 against incumbent Bob Schilling and Michael Stapleton. He was born and raised in Pueblo County, graduated from CSU-Pueblo, and has lived here most of his adult life.
He is president of the Southern Colorado Equality Alliance and says he learned leadership skills while working for the Boy Scouts of America and under several legislators. He is now an employee with an electrical engineering firm
Farrell says that one of his biggest priorities is to bring a new level of engagement between citizens and city government. He says that Council needs to reach out to citizens before issues "get out of hand" and citizens end up going to Council enraged about issues like Black Hills Energy's high electrical rates. He says he knows first hand about the energy industry and says he'll fight so that citizens no long have to pay the highest rates in the state, helping to explore other energy options.
He says that public safety issues must be addressed and that there needs to be more programs to especially address Pueblo's drug epidemic. He supports working with the new Pueblo Police Department leadership to create and expand special task forces, as well as supporting neighbors watching out for each other.
Farrell says that PEDCO needs to be accountable to bringing good paying jobs to Pueblo so our city can thrive. And in his own words from his campaign brochure: "From jobs that pay a living wage, to safe roads, to parks; Pueblo neighborhoods shouldn't be asked to just survive but to thrive with a City Council that works for them."
